Sleep is a natural process, but that does not mean it is simple. It is influenced by biology, diet, attachment, behavior, and so much more. And sleep - or lack thereof - influences growth, mood, behavior, routines for children and their caregivers!
I take a holistic approach to sleep coaching. We will be discussing and addressing more than just your child's sleep habits, routines, and challenges. You will recieve a sleep plan with coaching and strategies that are uniquely tailored to you and your child. The plan will be informed by your child's sleep habits, routines, and challenges, as well as their overall personality, temperament, relationships, and behavior, and your goals and expectations.
My end goals are:
Your child gets the sleep they need
You find more time for rest
Your relationship with your child is strengthened, not compromised
Sleep Coaching is for infants and children of any age, though strategies may drastically differ depending on age. Regardless of age, sleep coaching is a collaboration between parents, children, and myself.
Newborns
Humans are born knowing how to sleep. Newborn sleep does not resemble adult sleep, but there is nothing wrong with how infants sleep. Sleep coaching for an infant involves understanding their unique sleep patterns and troubleshooting routines to maximize your opportunities for rest.
Babies & Toddlers
The first three years of life are filled with constant physical growth and developmental leaps which can have a huge impact on sleep. Sleep coaching can help contextualize sleep within developmental milestones. We can also examine how factors like emotional regulation, feeding, object permanance, and attachment may affect your child's sleep and target some challenging areas.
Preschoolers
Preschoolers vary widely on how much sleep they need and are beginning to be aware of how much autonomy they have around sleep. Often sleep coaching for preschoolers involves fine-tuning routines and expectations around sleep. At this age, children tend to benefit from visuals and symbolism to help them internalize strategies.
Elementary and Up
As children get older, they grow in their capacity to understand and advocate for their own needs. Sleep coaching older children involves helping them utilize self-regulation strategies that can make calming down and sleeping more accessible. We can also analyze and respond to other underlying needs that impact their ability to sleep.
It depends on your goals! I offer a variety of support packages to fit your needs.
